Surely you have heard of Coco Chanel. Coco Chanel's name is Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel. She was born in 1883 and died in 1971. Ms. Chanel was a French fashion designer and is an important part of the 20th century fashion. Coco was the founder of the fashion brand Chanel. Due to her extremely important influence on fashion she was the only person in the couturier field that was named on the Time 100: The Most Important People of the Century.
Due to the death of Coco’s mother and her father leaving the family, she was put in an orphanage for six years. While staying at the orphanage Coco learned how to become a seamstress. Once she turned 18, Coco left the orphanage to pursue her career in music as a cabaret singer. Unfortunately she was unable to get work as a cabaret singer. While in Moulins she met a French textile heir named Étienne Balsan. Coco became his mistress. Later down the line Coco dated , Captain Arthur Edward 'Boy' Capel who happened to Mr. Balsan’s friend. Mr. Capel financed Coco’s first clothing shops for her. Coco and Capel spend nine years together but did not marry. Mr. Capel did marry another woman but did not lose all ties and completely break it off with Coco.
In 1910 Coco started to make hats that became famous. She later opened up a boutique. Coco dated many famous men but never did get married. While dating the Duke of Westminster she was asked why she did not get married to him. Her reply was "There have been several Duchesses of Westminster. There is only one Chanel."
