Brands you’ve seen in the movies

Some clothing brands only occasionally show up in a movie’s wardrobe and then there are those that seem to show up quite often. Of course, without an obvious logo, screen mention or other means to identify the brand most of us will never know what the movie’s character wore or where we can buy it. But, the costume designer and wardrobe department know and they know the brands that they turn to when budget is tight, multiples are needed or when the main actors or actress show best in a piece. Some of these brands you’ve seen many times, some are edgy and fit well to certain movie styles and some are household names covering the full spectrum from easy to find at the mall to haute couture. Here are just some of the brands you’ve may have noticed in the wardrobes of the movies you may have seen lately in the theaters and on DVD.

It seems as if everyone has owned a pair of Nike shoes at one point or another, and athletes know Nike as the go-to brand when it comes to sportswear. They have products for just about every size and shape a person may have. That makes them a great option for the wardrobe department as a shoe can be found that fits the setting of most contemporary movies. It helps of course that the Nike brand is also able to offer countless looks that meld fashion with function making it no surprise that Nike’s shoes will continue to be seen in movies for years to come. What may surprise you are the movies where you may have recently seen an actor or actress wearing shoes from Nike.

How about Denzel Washington in The Book of Eli; yes Denzel wore Nike shoes in that movie. The brand was there in that post-apocalyptic world making Denzel’s walking a bit easier on his feet. No surprise that Nikes showed as the shoes worn by actor Quinton Aaron during his portrayal of Michael Oher in The Blind Side. But did you know that Nikes were also part of Sandra Bullock’s wardrobe in The Blindside, alongside her Jimmy Choos and Manolo Blahniks?

Hanes may be known as the cotton king and it surely benefits from celebrity endorsement from Michael Jordan and others who have been the face of the brand. But it’s a less obvious brand that the wardrobe department turns to when a simple but well structured cotton tee is needed or when something stylish and practical is needed in multiples.

That brand is James Perse, whose collection goes beyond the simple tee you saw in the wardrobe for Extraordinary Measures worn by Brendan Fraser or the cast attire in Armored. Nope, the James Perse brand provided some key pieces that many people noticed in the wardrobe from 27 Dresses on Katherine Heigl’s sister Tess in 27 Dresses and on (and off) Matthew McConaughey as part of his Fool’s Gold wardrobe.

Yes, the movies provided us a great form of entertainment and for some brands the movies provide an opportunity for them to have a role in the magic of Hollywood. Check out the movie section for more info on the brands and clothes you saw in your favorite movie.
